Staying put

Thursday, August 15

Devyn and Kinley must be quite happy in the NICU. Although they are both doing well, they don't seem to be in any rush to leave. Well...they are waited on by their own personal nurse 24 hours a day...who wouldn't enjoy that?!?!

The girls are 37 weeks old today (gestational age)...still 3 weeks away from their due date. They both had another eye exam today, and the results were still good. Although both sets of eyes still have some developing to do, there are no signs of ROP.

"Doc says my eyes are good!"   -Devyn

The girls are still gaining weight. Devyn now weighs 6 lbs. 3 oz. and Kinley is 5 lbs. 5 oz. Kinley has continued to be up and down with her eating. Some days she does great and other days she still needs her feeding tube from time to time. She is starting to get very fussy about how she eats. Tonight she refused to take her bottle. Even when Dad (the feeding pro) was feeding her she was spitting her milk out even though it was obvious she was hungry. Turns out she wanted to nurse instead. She's already a picky eater!

"I don't want that bottle....it's gross!"   -Kinley

Devyn does very well nursing, but is still struggling with the bottle. Today she was awake for at least an hour after her feeding, which is very unusual for the girl who almost instantly starts to fall asleep when she eats.
