Catching Up!

Sunday, August 4

Devyn and Kinley must be very eager to get home...these past few days have brought huge changes! And Devyn is working hard to catch up with her "little sister," who is beating her in every area except weight!

When we arrived at the hospital today we discovered that Devyn had been removed from her CPAP machine, so she is now on an oxygen-flow breathing tube just like Kinley. This meant that she was ready to try a bottle and/or nursing! So, for the second day in a row, I was able to nurse one of the girls for the first time.

Even more amazing...Kinley's nurse reported that she had eaten both of her morning feeds entirely from a bottle....the entire 40 cc's! I could hardly believe it! And as if that wasn't incredible enough...that doctor had given permission for her to try room air with no support. For the first time (besides bath time), we were able to see her beautiful face with no tubes or wires.

So, Kinley nursed and bottle fed with no breathing support this afternoon. She did great the entire time. Only after her feeding, did she start to struggle a bit and her oxygen levels dropped. So eventually her oxygen tube was replaced, but it was still a good sign that her lungs are getting stronger and she will soon be able to go longer periods of time with no breathing support.

Kinley with no tubes, eating from a bottle!

For the evening feed, Dad gave Devyn her first bottle. At first she wasn't interested, but eventually she came around.

Both girls ate with their eyes closed today.
