Two 3-Pounders!

Wednesday, July 3

Today was full of ups and downs. When I arrived at the hospital, I was thrilled to realize that both girls had gained two ounces...making Devyn 3 lbs. 9 oz. and Kinley FINALLY hit the 3 pound mark...weighing in at 3 lbs. 1 oz.! In order to help her continue to gain weight, Kinley's calorie count was increased yet again.

Devyn had a pretty rough day today. This morning when the doctor was looking at her blood test, she noticed that her red blood cell count was low, which does not help with her breathing issues. So, the doctor decided to give her a blood transfusion to increase her count, and therefore (hopefully) improve her oxygen levels. So, the nurse had to insert an IV into her hand for the transfusion--we were hoping that they wouldn't need IVs anymore now that they have the PICC lines, but she was already maxed out with the number of things running into her PICC. The blood goes through a lot of checking, rechecking, and more checking before it is transfused into a patient, especially a preemie patient. So, it wasn't until this evening that she finally started the blood transfusion. The transfusion went fine, and now her blood will be checked again tomorrow to check the red blood cell count. If it doesn't show improvements, she may require another transfusion tomorrow.

The girls had more visitors today! Our friend Nichole flew in from Dallas to spend some time with the Marsh family. And friends Mike and Toni stopped by for a visit as well. I think it's safe to say they are the most popular NICU patients!

I think Kinley's tired of having her picture taken.....

A half-smile from Devyn.

Devyn's done with the camera too...
