Hand-Me-Downs

Saturday, August 31

Today was a MUCH better day for Devyn and Kinley. Grandma Carol and I were at the hospital for their late morning feeding. Both girls nursed their entire feeding and fell asleep...even Devyn! Normally she falls asleep after 5 minutes, and the nurses have to feed her through the feeding tube. Dad and I were at the hospital again this evening, and again both girls ate well...no feeding tube required!

The nursing staff is so impressed with how well Devyn nurses (compared to when she gets a bottle), they have asked if I would consider rooming-in with her for a 24 observation period. Normally this doesn't happen until a baby is ready to be discharged, but in Devyn's case they want to see if she would be able to avoid using her feeding tube for the entire 24 period. So, we have tentatively planned to try this tomorrow, but we have to see if the doctor will approve it. While rooming-in, they prefer the baby to be off all monitoring machines (to simulate life at home), but the doctor may not think Devyn has shown that she can handle that yet. I will find out tomorrow what the doctor has decided.

If Devyn's room-in is approved, the next couple days could FINALLY be the beginning of a very busy next 18 years! Pending the doctor's approval, Kinley may be discharged as early as Tuesday. So, potentially we would room-in with Devyn from Monday to Tuesday, and then take Kinley home with us when we leave on Tuesday.
 Kinley Grace

Kinley currently weighs 6 lbs. 5 oz. while her "big" sister Devyn weighs 7 lbs. 4 oz. Kinley's newborn clothes are still a little loose on her, while Devyn fills them out completely. If Kinley doesn't catch up, she may be getting hand-me-downs from her twin sister for the rest of her life:-)

Look how big Devyn is! Not 3 lbs. 3 oz. anymore!!!
