11 Week Old Roommates

Monday, September 2

Today the Marsh girls are 11 weeks old....and still 3 days away from their due date. Tonight Mom, Dad, Kinley, and Devyn are all roommates. We are rooming-in with the girls for the night, and hopefully will be taking Kinley home with us in the morning.

We came in at 4pm with our sleepover gear and Kinley's carseat. First up, was her carseat challenge. She had to maintain her vitals for 90 minutes while buckled into her seat. She passed with a 100%! Well...technically I think the nurse let her off at about 85 minutes because it was past her feeding time and she was getting cranky.

I should have known that it would be an interesting evening from the very beginning. The goal was to nurse both girls all night-no feeding tube and no bottles. The first feedings at 5 and 5:30pm went well.....or so I thought. Even though they both ate well, they both woke up about 15 minutes after (while I was feeding the other) and wanted to eat again. We hadn't even officially started our room-in and the girls were already off their every-3-hours schedule. Go figure!

When we first moved into the room-in suite it was relaxation time! We watched the CPR video for a refresher and then turned on the TV while the girls slept...so easy! That didn't last long. Pretty soon the girls were ready to eat again. Devyn was up first as usual. She ate...and ate....and ate. She ate 3 times longer than she normally does and I finally cut her off to feed Kinley. Well...that didn't go over well. She fussed and fussed while I fed Kinley and then finally was given another chance to eat again.

Hmmm....Dad looks like he's on vacation! Trust me....it wasn't that relaxing!

 

Now it's 5 am and we've all survived. Dad and babies are sleeping soundly right now. Me? Not so much. Kinley had a fabulous night! She slept and ate well all night long. I wish I could say the same for Devyn. She has been having some tummy troubles and didn't sleep very well. I'm sure the nurses will just love that she is now completely off the schedule they had her on just a few hours ago! Oops!

The nurse will be in soon to check on the girls. As long as Kinley hasn't lost a bunch of weight overnight, she should be approved for discharge!

It won't be long now Devyn and it'll be your turn!
