What a difference a day can make! The girls had a much better day today. Both Devyn and Kinley took some very big steps in the right direction:-)
Now that Devyn is comfortably passed the 4-pound mark, she has graduated to an open incubator. The top does not need to remain closed because she should be able to maintain her own temperature without the assistance of the bed. She now wears a little t-shirt, which is still huge on her, and stays snuggled in her blankets.

Apparently Devyn doesn't like her new wardrobe!
Kinley has finally surpassed her sister in one area...her breathing. She was changed to a cannula for her breathing today. Basically this means that she is receiving a steady flow of oxygen, but there is no pressure behind the flow, which is easier on her lungs. This is especially good news when it comes time for bottle or breastfeeding. A baby cannot try either method if they are on respiratory support that includes air pressure. Kinley has shown many promising signs that she may be ready for real feedings by the usual 33-34 week benchmark.

Although Devyn is a bit behind her sister, she made progress in the breathing area as well! Her respiratory support was changed to CPAP mode, which means she is receiving less air pressure support from the machines. Her feeds were increased to 35 cc's today as well!
More good news in the weight department! Devyn now weighs 4 lbs. 2 oz. and Kinley weighs 3 lbs. 8 oz.
