Today was a rough day for the Marsh girls. Both Devyn and Kinley had a difficult time breathing and both experienced a few desats (desaturation), where their oxygen levels drop extremely low. Although this is normal for premature babies of their age, it is still very difficult to watch. I held Devyn for a short time today, but her breathing was too unstable, and she had to be returned to her incubator.

Kinley had her first "bad day" since her transfusion. Just like her sister, her breathing was very unstable. The nurse was busy going back and forth between the two girls, managing the beeping monitors. And for the first time in many days, she had a lot of residual (or leftover) food still in her tummy after a feeding. The doctor came to examine her and ordered an x-ray of her chest and abdomen. Luckily there was nothing concerning in the x-ray, just a lot of air which may have been making her uncomfortable. The doctor ordered her to skip a feeding to give her stomach a rest. If her tummy troubles continue, they may need to stop using the milk additives in her feedings. The upside to her being so fussy was that she awake for an unusual amount of time.

On a positive note, the girls both gained weight today! Devyn had actually lost a bit yesterday, but during the weigh-in tonight she had returned to 4 lbs. Kinley gained a little as well, and now weighs 3 lbs. 7 oz. Additionally, when we returned to the hospital late tonight the girls' breathing was much more stable. Hopefully this is a sign that tomorrow will be another good day!

Kinley loves her pacifier! The occupational therapist is very impressed by
her sucking and rooting reflexes.
