Today was a busy day at #11 and #12 NICU Avenue! The first big announcement.....Kinley has finally reached 5 pounds!!! She'll be 8 weeks old tomorrow...hard to imagine, isn't it? And tonight before we left the hospital she was weighed again, and she's gained even more weight since last night!
It was bath day today....
"Can we get this over with so I can eat?!?!"
Kinley's feeding tube was removed again today. It had been over 24 hours since she'd needed it. She's been eating like crazy for the last day or so! The doctor stopped by today to discuss the girls' progress. She said that Kinley is getting close to going home! Before she can leave, she needs to continue gaining weight and eating on her own. She will also need to have her brain MRI completed before discharge. And finally, she will need to go an extended period of time without any breathing spells where her oxygen levels drop. The doctor didn't give us a date yet, but I'm predicting another week to a week and a half. I was thrilled when the nurse said to go ahead and bring in her car seat to get checked.....that's the most obvious sign a baby is getting ready to leave! Dad couldn't believe his ears when he heard this news!
The doctor switched Kinley from 24 calorie milk down to 22 calorie (normal breast milk has 20 per ounce). And she is allowed to eat as much as she wants! She can easily down an entire bottle (around 2 ounces). Or if Mom is visiting, she drinks part of a bottle and then nurses as well.
Devyn is in no rush to get home. I think she likes being pampered in the hospital! The doctor has prescribed her a medication to release some of the fluids from her body, in the hopes that it will make it easier for her lungs to function. She kept her breathing tube in during her bath today. Although she has been gaining weight well, the doctor is keeping her on the 24 calorie milk to continue to fatten her up. The more she grows, the stronger she'll get, and she has some catching up to do!
"C'mon....you missed a spot!!!" -Devyn
I think Devyn's getting used to this:-)
I think Devyn's newborn-size zebra hat is just a TAD too big for her still!
The girls also had some special visitors today. Grandma Marsh and Aunt Judy drove in from New Mexico to visit.
