The Marsh girls are already over 7 weeks old, and yet we are still 4 weeks away from my due date (Sept. 5th). Another NICU baby went home today....won't be too much longer and it will be our turn!
Kinley is still off of her breathing support! I couldn't believe it this morning when I arrived at the hospital....not only was she still tube-free, but the nurse had taken the oxygen machine away from her crib! So, apparently they aren't planning on putting her back on (unless she truly needs it, of course). She still struggles with breathing during feedings sometimes, but otherwise she's breathing like a healthy baby!
Kinley is still off of her breathing support....it's been over 24 hours now!
Kinley and I had a meeting with one of the hospital lactation consultants today. She said Kinley is a professional:-) The LC joked that Kinley should be starring in How-To videos for preemie babies. And she loves to eat! She nursed on and off for 30 minutes today and then still ate from a bottle. Tomorrow the doctor plans on changing her feeding orders to allow her to eat on demand, so she can eat as much as she wants, whenever she wants. She'll be keeping the nurses (and myself) busy! The only downside to all this is that she's burning too many calories and losing weight! She's still hovering around the 5 pound mark, but hasn't achieved it yet. Maybe tomorrow night.....
Devyn is doing well also. She is still on oxygen flow-only and handling it well. Just like her sister, she only has trouble around feeding times. Since she is still having trouble with the bottle (she loves it, but forgets to breathe), we decided to hold off on that for a while and instead now she nurses and then gets her feeding from her tube. She is still an ounce away from hitting 6 pounds....although she seems much bigger to me!
Devyn's many faces....
Surprised
Sleepy
Scared
Annoyed
Kinley's getting hungry again!
