11 Months Old!

Monday, May 19

How is it possible that these young ladies are almost one?!?! It seems like just yesterday we were watching them on the ultrasounds and anxiously awaiting their arrival. I'm not sure if I should be excited or depressed about planning their first birthday celebration!

What a fun month it has been! We celebrated my birthday by taking the girls swimming for the first time. It took Kinley a few minutes to adjust, but soon she was absolutely LOVING it! She was splashing herself (and everyone around her) and didn't even care! Devyn took a bit longer to warm up to the water. The water itself was a little chilly so after a short swim she started trying to escape.

 "This is awesome!"  -Kinley

"Let me out of here!"   -Devyn

"Well, maybe this isn't so bad."  -Devyn

After our swimming adventure, we tried to get some photos of the bathing beauties. Apparently modeling isn't in their future. They were NOT interested in having their pictures taken. I guess most females don't appreciate being photographed in a swimsuit. But I couldn't help it! They have all these adorable swimsuits to wear and they've already outgrown some before they even had a chance to wear them!

One week after my birthday, it was time to be spoiled again on my first Mother's Day! Dad and the girls took me out to brunch and that evening we took a ride on the High Roller, the new observation wheel on the strip.
Ready to hop on the wheel. It doesn't even stop!
 Here we go!
 Heights don't bother Devyn.
Kinley loves it too!
500+ feet

Devyn continues to be our busy girl! She is constantly moving and investigating. She is very curious and prefers to play with everything in the house that is NOT a toy. She is pretty good at holding her own bottle now...a nice break for Mom and Dad.
Devyn's favorite project...turning off the TV during the best part of the show! Then she watches the screen as it turns blue, and then turns to look at you with an evil grin!

Dad trapped her in the exersaucer. If you can get her to sit still for a moment...this is what happens.

More proof that sitting still makes Devyn fall asleep. She face-planted on her high chair!

The only thing slowing Devyn down these days are her new sleeping braces. We picked them up last week and haven't been getting much sleep since. Poor baby screamed nonstop the first two nights, was a bit better the third night, and then somehow managed to kick them off completely last night. I'm told she will eventually get used to them, but I feel awful knowing how uncomfortable she is.
Our tough little girl!

Kinley continues to make great progress in physical therapy! She is now moving her left arm more and is starting to gain some balance and the strength she needs to sit up on her own. (I'm keeping my fingers crossed that she can do so by her birthday). She has been qualified for early intervention services, which means that soon therapists from the state will start coming to the house to work with her.

10 Month Old Pictures!

Devyn Marie
Devyn is such an adventurer! She has endless energy and absolutely no fear. She attempts to leap off of the furniture at least once a day. In an attempt to slow her down, Grandpa Keith installed gates, cabinet locks, and even figured out a way to Devyn-proof the wine rack!

We visited her orthopedic doctor last week. She received another pair of special shoes to wear to keep her feet flexed and straight--they are a nightmare to get on! And even worse...we had to order shoes with a bar in between that she will need to start sleeping in. I am not looking forward to their arrival. I see a lot of discomfort in her future, and many sleepless nights for us all:-(  Other than that, she is a very healthy young lady!

More shoes for Devyn. This young lady has maxed out her shoe allowance for a lifetime!

Kinley Grace
Kinley is a happy, energetic little girl! She loves to watch her baby shows on TV and chew on anything she can find. She likes to watch Devyn crawl in circles around her, but will make her frustration known if Devyn comes too close and bothers her.

Kinley started physical therapy a couple weeks ago. We have already noticed a huge improvement in her coordination and motor skills! I regret not starting her sooner. Until recently, all of her doctors have been shrugging off her delays, saying that it's normal for preemies, and that she gets more time to catch up to her actual age. But her abilities are now officially behind her adjusted age, so her neurologist referred us for physical therapy and her developmental case manager has re-referred her for an early-intervention assessment.

Last weekend we celebrated the girls' first Easter. We had a great time celebrating with friends and family, and took about a 1000 photos. Here are just a few...

On the Move!

Monday, April 7

Wow! What a difference three weeks makes! Our house has completely transformed due to one young lady....Devyn! This is what we see now....

 Devyn....where are you going?!?!

Come back here please!

Devyn not only learned out how to crawl, but within a couple days of figuring that out, she also decided she wanted to start pulling herself up. And then as if that wasn't enough, she also loves to crawl up onto the furniture!
Devyn's first time pulling herself up on the furniture (March 20th). Apparently it's easy!

Our daredevil! I'm trying to feed Kinley, and she has climbed up onto the back of the bouncy chair and is trying to get up onto the coffee table.

What? Isn't this how you get out, Mom?

We put Devyn's bouncy chair away, as she clearly has no need for it....at least, not for its actual purpose anyway. But she still utilizes Kinley's for her personal jungle gym. Instead we brought the play yard into the living room (yes....more baby gear in the living room). She's not a huge fan of her jail cell yet.

Miss Kinley has been making some recent improvements, but is still well behind her sister. She is starting physical therapy next week to focus on building her strength. Her legs are very strong, but she still doesn't have the core strength to sit up. She has, however, gotten much better in just the last day or so.
Kinley hanging out!

FOOD is the other big change in our house. Devyn and Kinley have decided they really enjoy eating solid foods! They are even chewing on cereal puffs! So far their favorite is mom's homemade oatmeal mixed with pears. Yes....that's right! I actually made my own baby food! Pretty proud of myself:-)

  We like peas!!!
(Check out Kinley's baby blues.....)
